Ex-FTX Exec Requests Prison Reporting Delay Over ‘Dog Bite’

July 29, 2024

Lawyers representing former FTX executive Ryan Salame have requested New York Judge Lewis Kaplan to delay his self-surrendering date to prison. They underlined the need for Salame to undergo urgent surgery after being "mauled" by a German Shepherd dog when he visited a friend's home last month.

They affixed a physician's letter along with the request letter to the court. They noted Salame consulted a doctor on July 3 and was evaluated "after sustaining a dog-bite injury to the face.”

Parts of the letter and exhibits that chalked out the severity of his injury were redacted.

They pled,

“Under the advice of his physician, Mr. Salame requests a 45-day continuance of this self-surrender date so that he may undergo urgent and necessary medical treatment and surgery.”

The former executive now expects the judge to push the surrender date from Aug. 29 to Oct. 13.

Salame has been quite active on X of late.

On the day of the attack, he posted that he hoped his surgeon was not a Democrat who knew he was a Republican. More recently, he asserted that he was “wrong” about Nashville and labeled that place to be “heaven.”

When a fellow community member asked him if it was better than prison, Salame asserted that he would “crush” it either way and had a few “BIG” interviews lined up.

Salame pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws and operating an unlicensed money transmitter following the collapse of FTX. On the heels of his guilty plea, the former FTX executive was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
