A Complete Guide to Sport.Fun: Why It Will Win Beyond TGE

January 14, 2026

In conclusion

Crypto is past the infrastructure hype era. While we might not be entirely where we need to be infrastructure-wise (yet), there has been a shift in focus, from infrastructure to apps.

A few apps in recent months have solidified their existence as breakout apps, with users that stretch beyond crypto’s echo chamber. A notable example is Polymarket, whose success has led to a surge in the popularity of prediction markets.

Following in this direction, we once introduced Football.Fun to you as an app that we believe has all the necessary elements to become a truly successful consumer app.

Since then, they’ve evolved to what’s now known as Sport.Fun, encompassing the game of football (soccer), the NFL, and will be integrating the NBA later this year.

Sport.Fun has not only expanded its scope but has also surpassed expectations, with incredible metrics, becoming one of the fastest-growing and stickiest apps in its niche, and arguably the most interesting app on the Base network.

Sport.Fun has successfully captured the most valuable market geographic areas, with over 30% of its players coming from the United States, and a significant portion from Europe.

The app continues to display signs of consumer adoption, such as users going beyond clicking or playing for fun to scouting, analyzing, and even building sophisticated tools to gather data that gives them an edge in the game.

An overview of the metrics so far:

  • $105 million+ total trading volume
  • $10 million+ revenue from trading fees, contract renewals, and special pack sales
  • $30 million+ in deposits from 20,000+ unique paying users
  • 71% week 1 retention among paying users (51% after week 2, 35% month 1 as of November 10)
  • #1 consumer app on Base by revenue during Q3 & Q4 2025

To solidify these metrics as a truly successful debut and quite impressive early days for a consumer app, Sport.Fun’s ICO was highly sought-after, oversubscribed, and successful in a market where ICOs have suffered from attention deficit and participant fatigue.

Now, heading towards the debut of the $FUN token, the BIG question is, will Sport.Fun survive beyond TGE? Or are we looking at another overhyped app here?

Our opinion largely leans towards optimism, and in the following paragraphs, we will walk you through what the app is, how it works, its features, and ultimately, lay out our thesis for being optimistic about the future of Sport.Fun post-TGE.

Sport.Fun: A quick primer

Sport.Fun is a skill-based, liquid, prediction, and ownership marketplace where game players buy, sell, and trade shares of real-world athletes.

Sport.Fun exists within a triad of prediction markets, fantasy sports, and sports betting, creating an entertainment platform that promotes flexible asset ownership over short-term positions.

Users or players rely on their knowledge of their chosen sports within the app to earn rewards from a robust economy built on some of the most exciting sports in the world.

Unlike sports betting, where users often choose between binary win or loss scenarios, Sport.Fun is designed for conviction-style trades.

Players buy athletes in anticipation of their weekend or weekday performances across various competitions and leagues, or they can hold onto these players for weeks, banking on them outperforming their opponents over a longer timeframe.

Sport.Fun initially began with its first IP, Football.Fun, which focused on soccer and featured a free-to-play and pro mode for players. The platform has since expanded to include the National Football League (NFL) and is poised to add the NBA later in the year.

Each sport on the app features a unified AMM pool, with deep liquidity covering each listed or available player on the platform. Users buy fractional shares from the pool, owning the players like tokens.

Key features and competitive edge

Sport.Fun is designed to provide an enhanced and improved experience compared to many existing fantasy sports games.

For example, unlike certain games built on collectible-style experiences, Sport.Fun uses a working primitive in AMMs to provide liquidity for user-owned (shares of athletes) items.

This solves liquidity (entry and exit) issues. This design also enables everyone to benefit from the platform’s growth, as indiscriminate demand for shares can lead to a rise in share prices across the board.

Earning from Sport.Fun also occurs in two ways:

  • Users earn from the share price increasing due to demand that can arise from collective platform growth, as well as from the player’s real-life performance.
  • Users earn tournament points after each tournament, which can be used to open new player packs and earn shares of random players. They can then choose to either sell or add these players to their main squad.

On Sport.Fun, player cards, or shares are equivalent to composite perpetual assets, i.e., they are carried over from season to season. This design opens the door to legacy and historic styles of gameplay, creating an emotional experience between players and the platform.

Like we also mentioned earlier, Sport.Fun features a free-to-play (F2P) mode that helps new users test the game in an environment where gains and losses are dummies.

In hindsight, the F2P system acts like a funnel to attract players, allowing them to test their skill before taking a stab at the PRO version, where they are compelled to have skin in the game.

Another really interesting aspect of Sport.Fun, is its sustainable economic design that avoids the inflation pitfalls of preceding P2E games.

Sport.Fun utilizes a ‘closed loop’ design, where platform revenue (trading fees) is used to buy back and burn in-game currency ($FUN) and provide liquidity to the unified pool for athlete shares.

The entire framework of the Sport.Fun app builds upon the strengths of other apps or games in its niche, learning from their weaknesses. This is the sort of strategic thinking that has attracted tier-1 backers, including Coinbase, Delphi Digital, and 6th Man Ventures, who strongly support the app's continued growth.

Sport.Fun platform guide: Scouting to earning, step-by-step

Users can choose to play either the free-to-play version of the app or the PRO version, depending on their preference and goals.

To start playing PRO,

  • Go to Sport.Fun - Select the sport (Football or NFL).
  • Choose mode (e.g, Pro)
  • Connect your wallet - Ensure you are on the Base network. Proceed to set up your profile.
  • Next, you’ll have to fund your wallet, as seen below. You can fund your account with crypto by sending USDC (on Base) to the app-generated wallet address, which is specific to each user, or via fiat.
  • To buy a player, click on “Transfers” and select the player, as shown below. A 3% base fee is deducted from each purchase.
  • You can also swap players. Just click on “Swap,” select the player you want to swap with, and click on “Swap Now”. A 5% fee will be deducted from your balance with each swap.
  • To sell, simply click on the player, input the amount, and click the “Sell Now” button. A 3% base fee is deducted from each sale.
  • Users can start earning free TP or tournament points by completing beginner and threshold objectives.
  • To do this, click on your profile, select the objectives tab, and start completing the tasks to earn your first TP.
  • On the user dashboard, users can alternate between the “Active” squad and the “Development” squad.
  • The active squad comprises all players who are eligible to participate in tournaments. On the other hand, when a user opens packs purchased using their TP, the revealed players are added directly to the development squad.
  • Users can cut squad players in the development squad to get back some TP or promote the players to their active squad.
  • To enter any tournament, a user must own at least five players.
  • Users can withdraw funds seamlessly from the app by clicking on “Withdraw,” which directs them to the Transfer tab, as shown below.
  • Proceed to insert your preferred amount, fill in your destination wallet address, and click “Transfer.”
  • Users can transfer either Gold or FUN tokens, depending on the in-game currency they have available.
  • Compete by entering your squad into tournaments to earn rewards based on real-world performance. Automatic league participation.
  • How do earnings work? You earn profits from both tournament winnings and the capital appreciation of your player shares.

Sport.Fun as an asymmetric bet beyond TGE

Although Sport.Fun outperforms comparable platforms in both product design and growth trajectory; it continues to trade at a valuation premium that remains well below the peak levels reached by these peers.

This valuation asymmetry presents a compelling opportunity for interested parties.

Sport.Fun differentiates itself through several structural advantages within its niche, including deeper liquidity markets, a more competitive fee structure, and a pronounced edge in the skill-to-luck ratio.

Over 90% of outcomes are skill-based, relying on user knowledge and data analysis rather than chance.

Additionally, the platform operates on a seasonality-resistant model, further enhancing its long-term viability.

The platform has clearly demonstrated product–market fit and strong user engagement. More than 20,000 users across the United States and Europe actively participate on Sport.Fun, with 15–20% of new users remaining active three weeks after the most recent growth catalyst.

These retention metrics point to durable engagement and a loyal core user base.

Furthermore, Sport.Fun sits at the intersection of three massive markets, i.e., sports betting, fantasy sports, and prediction markets, resulting in an exceptionally large total addressable market (TAM).

Capturing even a small share of any one of these segments could significantly expand Sport.Fun’s current ~20,000-user base.

The growing interest in prediction-style markets, combined with SDF Predict, which introduces rewards for scoreline predictions, goalscorer forecasts, and advanced performance benchmarks, positions the platform to attract a broader and more diverse audience.

Additional near-term catalysts for user growth include the integration of the NBA, which commands a global weekly viewership exceeding 100 million fans, as well as the upcoming FIFA World Cup hosted in the United States - Sport.Fun’s strongest geographic.

We believe that beyond the launch of the $FUN token, Sport.Fun is poised to be a true breakout app, as the world's economy continues to shift toward ownership and as crypto continues to gain mainstream adoption.

$FUN tokenomics

The $FUN tokenomics is designed to reinforce a reward-based, sustainable economy. Upon the launch of the token, a buyback and burn mechanism will be activated, utilizing 40% of platform revenue to remove the $FUN token from the open market.

The remaining 60% will be allocated as follows: 20% to fund development and 40% to bolster liquidity by adding USDC across all athletes.

The $FUN token will have a total supply of 1 billion tokens, and at TGE, a circulating supply of 12.75% of the total supply.

This will be the distribution formula for the token:

Community: 25% (250,000,000 FUN)

  • Genesis Airdrop: 4% (40,000,000 FUN)

Team: 25% (250,000,000 FUN)

Investors: 24.78% (247,800,000 FUN)

Team: 20% (200,000,000 FUN)

Treasury: 17.7% (177,200,000 FUN)

A community airdrop will be conducted at TGE, rewarding those who have used the platform since it went live in August 2025.

Users who continue to use the platform after the TGE will continue to earn by putting their skills to work, while also earning additional perks at the team’s discretion.

Concluding thoughts

On a more personal note, it is difficult not to be optimistic about the future of Sport.Fun, particularly given the strength of its metrics, with only two sports currently integrated.

The upcoming integration of the NBA is expected to meaningfully improve retention, driven by the app’s season-based ownership structure and its player trading (swap) mechanics, which closely mirror real-world NBA transactions.

These features naturally align with how NBA fans already engage with the sport, encouraging longer-term participation and repeat engagement.

The NBA’s structural dynamics, such as frequent trades, performance-driven narratives, and high fan involvement, map seamlessly onto Sport.Fun’s existing framework.

This positions the platform to potentially emerge as a leading fantasy-style product for dedicated NBA fans.

Beyond the numbers, the team behind Sport.Fun stands out for its resilience and execution.

They have weathered aggressive competition, navigated an early hype cycle, and continued to build with focus and discipline - traits that are often more predictive of long-term success than short-term momentum alone.

Sport.Fun’s close alignment with Base certainly presents a rewarding way to interact with the L2 ahead of an expected token release. We expect this to further retain users beyond the TGE.
