5 Onchain Experiments Putting Crypto Back on the Map

In conclusion

While it is almost impossible not to sniff that we’re at the cusp of a new bull market, there’s an air of uncertainty that is still lingering at the same time.

If you’re trading on fomo, you can feel the vibes coming back, but if your snout is pointed toward things that are more concrete, structured, and have a semblance of a team behind it, rather than a 14-year-old in their mom’s basement, you might just agree that not so much has changed in the current Sahara-like clime.

If you ask us at the blocmates HQ, we agree that the signs are positive. Whether it is Claude Code doing all the work or just the appetite to build cool stuff back in everyone’s throat, the reality is that we’re beginning to see some cool onchain experiments that are gradually shifting us to the edge of our seats.

We’ve curated a few of the ones we find most interesting. Let’s get into it.

DeepState

The first fascinating experiment on our list is something called DeepState (top-tier name choice, ngl). DeepState is a fully onchain spot order book on the Robinhood network, with interesting mechanics designed to benefit those who play by the rules.

On DeepState, users are incentivized to throw in improved bids or asks because of an uneven reward stream.

What this means is that whoever has the tightest quote earns the pool rewards, incentivizing the best price for traders while keeping things interesting.

At the moment, DeepState has the NVDA/USDG market live and has done over 10 million USDG in volume.

Users earn DEEP from each epoch by supplying liquidity and can burn it into STATE, the protocol’s governance token, in order to make a claim on the fees.

fomo Clan Trading

You’ve gotta be some next-level genius to play the trenches solo.

We are not saying it isn’t possible to do it solo, but it is far from the norm.

Traders often unite in groups spread across Telegram, alongside Ricky and other bots, scanning for the next 1000x.

It is based on the norm that fomo recently introduced an interesting feature called “Clans.”

Clans are groups of traders that share their positions, while the system ranks these Clans through the collective PnLs of everyone trading on fomo.

This makes trading feel like a team sport and enhances the idea of social trading.

Chimpers Adventure Pouches

The vibes have spread to NFTs, but we are yet to ascertain if they’re truly back or it’s just another fad. In the midst of that, though, is the Chimpers community.

Anyone who’s been in this long enough can attest that Chimpers is probably one of the strongest, resilient, and innovative NFT brands in the space.

They’ve come up with something beautiful, applying ERC-6551 (non-fungible tokens-bound accounts) to the Chimpers collection.

ERC-6551 upgrades an NFT from simply being an asset owned by a wallet to controlling a smart-contract account that can hold assets and interact with other contracts.

As a result, every Chimper NFT now has its own onchain wallet or “Adventure Pouch.”

This new feature accords each Chimper the ability to become more valuable dependent on what’s in their pouch, which could range from assets, tokens, seasonal items, rewards, and the CHMPSTR token.

We think that Chimpers are on a journey to becoming a global brand, and this might be the start of something incredible. We will be more than happy to chat with the lads about where this is all headed.

Heading to KBW, TOKEN2049 or a well deserved holiday?Flights, hotels, taxis, dinners, coffees, the spending adds up quickly.

Instead of off-ramping crypto to your bank before the trip, deposit directly into Plasma One from supported chains and spend from there.

And if you’re going to spend thousands travelling anyway, you might as well earn while doing it.

Load up Plasma One before you fly and make it your card for the week.

TapeOut Protocol

Most of the info out there on what this is is written in Chinese, so we will do you a favor and explain this seemingly pretty cool development that has our attention, and is being built by an 8th grader.

It is called TapeOut and is being espoused at the first semblance of an onchain CPU.

The core idea is to turn the fundamental building blocks of a computer into objects that exist on a network chain.

TapeOut starts at the bottom with the simplest universal logic gate, NAND, and represents each transistor as an ERC-1155 token.

When you “tape out” a design, the underlying transistor tokens are consumed, and the resulting circuit becomes an ERC-721 NFT containing the information about how its gates are connected - the circuit itself becomes a persistent computational object onchain.

TapeOut's processor advances one clock cycle every time BNB Chain produces a block, so the blockchain's consensus becomes its clock.

The current prototype is deliberately tiny and extremely slow (4-bit processor modeled after the 1971 Intel 4004), but the architecture is designed so that people can build increasingly sophisticated circuits on top of the same primitive layer.

Can’t lie, this piques our curiosity about what could be possible.

We believe that this can advance to composable, persistent, permissionless computational circuits, becoming a new primitive for fully onchain apps, cryptography, games, autonomous agents, verification, and eventually zk-style computation.

If that works, TapeOut could well be the foundation for an open, onchain hardware ecosystem where anyone can build, own, reuse, and compose computation itself.

ROC Camera

We’ve seen Nev’s photos taken with this and think it’s a pretty interesting idea. Plus, we are totally here for cool hardware that leverages crypto tech.

ROC Camera is protecting reality from the flood of generative AI content using zk-tech to verify reality taken on a really sick camera.

With every photo taken, an encrypted proof on capture is stored immutably and verifiably, registering an unalterable reality.

Is this something you would give a try?

Concluding thoughts

While we still wait for more concrete signs of life in the crypto industry,  we are always happy to get into the weeds of the things brewing in the shadows or still being discussed as forbidden chatter in the e-pubs.

Some of them might end up dead for all we care, but every now and then, there might just be a diamond in the rough.

And that's exactly what we're looking for.

Let's be honest, AI subscriptions add up fast. One month it's ChatGPT, then Claude, then another tool everyone on TikTok swears you need.

Before you know it, you're paying for half a dozen
AI apps just to keep up. We're in the same boat, which is why we've been using Plasma One.

It gives us cash back on our AI subscriptions without having to think about canceling the ones we actually use.

If you want in, sign up using the link or scan the QR code below and start getting some of that money back.

Paying for ChatGPT or Claude won't suddenly make your life cheaper. Your monthly subscriptions will still hit your bank account, but Plasma One will help route some of that money back to your pocket.
