TrueNorth Agents: Bringing the Trading Desk to Your Pocket

In conclusion

Everyone young and old, broke and rich, has sulked on the notion of passive income.

For most, it’s the idea that you generate money without even doing anything while you sit on a beach in Phuket. It’s like the north star, something that’s always there, but you intuitively know it’s not attainable.

For the finance bros, it’s something a bit more concrete. If only there were such a financial vehicle, whether a stock, crypto, or some exotic fund, where I could just park my funds and earn juicy returns indefinitely without having to monitor anything.

With AI becoming more capable by the day, this idea seems more achievable than ever. I mean, all the big funds are using it to power their strategies. Why can’t we?

But even if there were such a system that generated money without interruption, nobody would willingly give it away, especially not for free.

In any case, that’s the wrong way of looking at things. It's not so much the action of pressing buttons that we’re looking to replace. Pressing buttons isn't what’s holding us back, because that can be done from anywhere.

It’s everything that surrounds the action of pressing a “Buy” or “Sell” button. The research, due diligence, setups, reflection, all these things are the real time killers.

The true north star we should be looking for is how to compress the hours we spend on these tasks, leaving us with more time to press those damn buttons (make more trades, get more feedback, make better trades), and spend more time on that same beach in Phuket.

If only.

TrueNorth: A primer

For those of you who’ve been following us, you’ll probably know about TrueNorth. If not, I strongly suggest reading our earlier article, which provides a broader context, explains its functions, and, more importantly, details how it works under the hood.

Knowing most of you don’t have the attention span to read two articles in a day (I surely don’t), here’s the TL;DR version.

TrueNorth is a novel financial software that replaces traditional workflows for traders by bringing the full trade lifecycle, from research to execution to analysis, into a single interface.

It curbs the typical clutter of tabs, charts, and supposed Discord or Telegram alpha.

By tapping into over 40 real-time data sources, it provides visibility into crypto, US equities, commodities (industrial metals, oil, natural gas), indices, and prediction markets, delivering all essential information with only a few prompts.

Under the hood, it runs on an agent architecture that mimics Hermes' persistent memory, learning your habits, preferred indicators, and recurring mistakes as you use it, ultimately improving your trading game.

Though our previous article was just a few weeks ago, the devs have been hard at work to bring us the most impactful release yet.

Agent release

Before, TrueNorth was a single analyst. The Agent release brings TrueNorth’s vision of becoming a full-blown trading desk sitting in your pocket closer to reality.

  • A redesigned, canvas-like homescreen with draggable widgets spanning across your watchlist, open orders, positions, macro calendar, portfolio, and agents
  • A new Position Watcher agent that can be deployed to monitor active positions
  • The first custom agent built in collaboration with Skew, a widely followed crypto trader
  • TrueNorth is now available on Telegram. You can monitor positions, receive alerts, daily digests, and enter trades on the go

Trading floor

To accommodate the new paradigm, the home page experienced a makeover. Now, instead of the traditional layout with a chat box and a lot of empty space, TrueNorth has turned it into a functional, customizable canvas, allowing you to make the trading floor uniquely yours.

Proactive agents

Your trading floor now features Proactive agents. Whereas previously you were the one initiating a conversation with a quant next to the coffee machine, you now have multiple quants who reach out to you first, even while you’re away from the office.

The first to come, and arguably, the most impactful in TrueNorth’s hiring spree, is the Position Watcher agent. Be it your exposure, funding, or important levels, this agent will follow the thesis laid out by its colleague (research agent) and send you real-time alerts on your open positions.

Another notable newcomer is the Skew Market Screener, the first custom agent launched in partnership with 52skew, which scans the entire Hyperliquid perp landscape (funding, OI, whale flow, CVD, liqs) and delivers it in a single report.

Telegram

Mobile access is table stakes for any retail-oriented brokerage, especially one featuring agents who can provide real-time insights and track a trader’s open positions.

The Telegram integration extends TrueNorth’s capabilities to cover nearly everything in the app, including one-click trade execution. Yes, not only can you access research and trade setups, but you can also enter positions that your trusty quants have laid out.

When these features are aligned with what the platform already offers, TrueNorth’s agent fleet covers the trade from the first scan to the last exit.

Road ahead

What’s mentioned thus far is simply the most recent developments from the TrueNorth team, and if there’s one thing we can tell you about them, it is that they ship hard and fast.

Although we can’t divulge too many details of what the future holds, it’s something along the lines of this:

  • More co-branded agents
  • Messaging platforms beyond Telegram
  • More exchanges, some of which are pre-TGE, meaning there's a double farming opportunity for you.

This brings us closer to a new kind of world, one in which agents sit between humans and the underlying financial rails, fundamentally changing how we interact with markets.

The intelligence layer

By this point, it’s fair to say LLMs are increasingly becoming a commodity. A race to zero with the east.

And that’s not a unique situation either, as every technology has gone through the same thing once the underlying resource became abundantly available.

All this really meant was that the value trickled to either side of the stack: the underlying infrastructure or the interface layer.

In the first case, those offering the best service secured the most integrations, such as AWS or Azure for compute. In the second case, the winners were the most user-friendly apps, like Uber for ride-hailing or Instagram for photo sharing.

Everything in the middle just sort of withered away.

The same applies to onchain markets, where liquidity, once scarce and costly, has now become a commodity.

Uniswap, Aave, and Morpho succeeded due to their liquidity depth and reliability, which made them the logical choice as a “backend” for apps.

Conversely, the top apps of this cycle were those that provided a distinctive experience, such as neobanks, trading terminals, and social trading platforms that offered more than just a place to store your coins.

If we extrapolate this phenomenon to a world where autonomous systems operate on our behalf and models, and liquidity is a commodity, premiums will increasingly accumulate at the liquidity or the app layer.

The winning applications of tomorrow are those that offer what raw commodities cannot.

In financial markets, it’s knowing which trade actually makes sense. Understanding how a specific person thinks about risk, rather than treating every user the same. Finding the cleanest route through a maze of venues instead of settling for the first option.

Previously, accomplishing this needed either a full team of operators or an individual skilled in trading and deeply familiar with the blockchain's quirks.

For most, something had to give, which inevitably led to countless people losing their money due to hacks, software vulnerabilities, or a simple misunderstanding of how the markets they’re participating in function.

Things like a health factor, liquidations, and other peculiarities may seem second nature to us, but for most, even staring at a chart may be too much to bear.

If only there were an intelligent layer that could reliably guide users through this process, whether by routing transactions, opening trades, or simply surfacing a suggestion that the coin they’re interested in is actually a honeypot.

If only.

Remaining in control

The future we’re steering toward isn't without its share of pushback. People today still wouldn’t entrust their money to autonomous systems. Perhaps we’ll never trust it, especially knowing how susceptible software is to vulnerabilities.

But I suspect that this is only a matter of time and that a gradual bonding process, so to speak, will commence. It’ll start with TrueNorth consistently delivering quick, actionable research paired with great trade setups.

Out of that, knowledge and personalization for each user will grow, leading to increased trust. Gradually, then all at once, we’ll be trusting agents to perform more and more tasks on our behalf.

All that’s left for devs to ship are clear, enforceable guardrails without fault. Not that it's easy or anything, but the path is clear.

Until then, I’ll gladly shave hours off my week that I would otherwise spend keeping up with the markets, doing research, finding setups, and journaling, which is actually just logging trades in an Excel sheet and never doing anything about them.

But there is a very simple solution to it, which we alluded to in our previous article

Perhaps the most logical thing to do is to deliver AI intelligence and structure to areas like research, trade setups, and journaling, and leave the action of pressing the buy button to the human.

Concluding thoughts

In the old paradigm, users were lured with incentives. This can be either a liquidity mining program, an airdrop, or other financial incentive.

For TrueNorth, the carrot at the end of the stick is the product itself - intelligence. If people come to the application and get better at trading, there is no need for it to do anything but deliver on its USP.

What TrueNorth is effectively doing is pioneering a paradigm shift. A shift from a regime where we check in on AI tools to an AI tool that checks in on you and gives you all the necessary apparatus to succeed.

Curation, vibe-check, gut instinct, finesse; these are all human traits that can hardly be explained, and yet, they play a pivotal role in our day-to-day lives.

Structure, aggregation, mult-faceted analysis; that’s something AI excels in. Combine these two, and you’ve got your hands on what we think is the holy grail of AI-driven trading.

The crazy thing is that it’s still early days. TrueNorth has only recently crossed a $100 million in volume through the platform, and this is without the upcoming new features, more agents, and more integrations (with exchanges and others).

In the chaotic, vast, and often treacherous ocean of financial markets, TrueNorth serves as your one guiding north star.
