From Crypto to Everything: Coinbase Aims to Build the ‘One-Stop On-Chain Exchange’

The move puts Coinbase in closer competition with firms like Robinhood and Kraken, which have already dipped into tokenized equity

Coinbase, one of the largest U.S.-based crypto exchanges, is preparing to broaden its platform beyond traditional digital assets.

According to a new report from CNBC, the company is working on what it calls an “everything exchange,” aiming to bring tokenized stocks, prediction markets, early-stage token sales, and more to its users over the coming months.

A one-stop shop for on-chain trading

Max Branzburg, Coinbase’s vice president of product, confirmed that U.S. customers would be the first to see the new features. The company envisions a platform where nearly any tradable asset could exist on-chain, making it easier for users to access different markets from a single app.

“We’re building an exchange for everything you want to trade, in one place,” Branzburg told CNBC. “The goal is to move more assets on-chain — stocks, prediction markets, derivatives — and create a foundation for a faster and more global economy.”

The move puts Coinbase in closer competition with firms like Robinhood and Kraken, which have already dipped into tokenized equity offerings in certain regions.

Following the U.S. rollout, Coinbase plans to expand internationally as regulatory approvals allow. CEO Brian Armstrong has previously said he wants Coinbase to evolve into the top financial services platform worldwide within the next decade.

Timing aligns with policy shifts in washington

The announcement comes as U.S. regulators take fresh steps toward integrating crypto into traditional markets.

The Securities and Exchange Commission recently revealed “Project Crypto,” an initiative designed to modernize securities rules and potentially make on-chain trading more accessible to investors.

Tokenization of real-world assets, such as company shares or commodities, has seen rising interest this year, helped by a friendlier stance from the current administration toward blockchain innovation.
