Web3 in Your Pocket? Solana’s Seeker Phones Begin Global Rollout with Built-In Token Rewards

Solana Mobile has officially begun shipping its second-generation Seeker smartphones, marking another step in the company’s push to bring crypto-friendly devices to a wider audience.

According to Solana Mobile’s August 4 announcement, tens of thousands of units are now leaving warehouses and heading to customers in over 50 countries. The Seeker follows the Saga, Solana’s first attempt at blending blockchain with mobile tech, but this time the rollout seems much bigger.

What makes seeker different

If you remember the Saga, you know it was Solana’s first try at giving crypto users a phone that worked like a regular Android device but came packed with Web3 features.

The Seeker builds on that idea.

Each phone comes with a built-in Solana dApp Store that already has more than 100 apps covering everything from DeFi and payments to onchain gaming. It also ships with Seed Vault, a secure key storage feature meant to protect your private keys without relying on third-party apps.

And here’s where it gets interesting: every Seeker unit generates a soulbound Genesis Token, which unlocks early access to new apps and SKR token rewards down the line.

If this sounds familiar, that’s because the Saga saw a similar boost in popularity after its BONK token airdrop in 2023 made headlines for being worth more than the phone itself.

This time, Solana Mobile appears to be leaning into that same kind of incentive model but with a broader international launch right from the start.

A growing crypto phone market

Crypto-native smartphones have been around for a few years now, with projects like HTC’s Exodus 1 and Sirin Labs’ Finney trying to make them mainstream. But adoption has been slow, often limited by high price tags and niche appeal.

The Saga launched at $1,000 before dropping to $599 after sluggish sales. Despite that rocky start, it built a small but loyal community of users who enjoyed the mix of mobile and blockchain.

Seeker seems to be Solana Mobile’s next big swing, backed by lessons learned from the first attempt and a growing ecosystem of Solana-based apps.

With social media entrepreneur and X's head of product, Nikita Bier, joining as an adviser, Solana is also signaling that it wants to make the experience more user-friendly and appealing beyond the hardcore crypto crowd.

Whether Seeker will finally make crypto phones a household name is still up in the air, but shipping to over 50 countries suggests Solana Mobile is aiming much bigger this time.
