Preparations for the upcoming presidential election in the US are going on in full swing.
On one hand, Trump has been trying to earn the votes of the crypto community by vowing to embrace this novel asset class and its underlying blockchain technology.
In fact, he has also been receiving donations en masse from industry stalwarts.
Now, has Kamala Harris — his Democratic peer — started accepting crypto donations too? Well, let's delve into it.
Earlier this week, a report emerged stating that Harris is using Coinbase’s Commerce platform to accept crypto donations. However, that ain’t the case factually.
Future Forward USA, a political action committee — that is a major source of support for Harris — has opened its doors to digital asset contributions.
After the report went live, a spokesperson clarified,
“Coinbase can confirm that Future Forward has onboarded with Coinbase Commerce. Future Forward identifies itself as Harris’s official super PAC.
That being said, it should be noted that a super PAC can raise any amount of funds to back candidates. There is no upper cap essentially.
However, it cannot directly contribute to a campaign or a political party.
This means Harris’s campaign isn't accepting crypto contributions directly. No mentions of any such future plans have been made on the official website either.
Harris is yet to publicly take a stance on crypto. Nevertheless, her campaign staff have met with prominent crypto firms, including Coinbase and Ripple.
Alongside, Brian Nelson, a senior advisor for the Harris campaign, asserted at a recent event that Harris would support the growth of emerging technologies.
People from the crypto community took this as a positive sign.
